The Malaysia Steel and Metal Distributors' Association (MSMDA) was established in 1943 as the Selangor Hardware and Second-hand Dealers' Association during the Japanese occupation. Over time, it evolved into a national steel and metal association with a history of 78 years. The MSMDA has 378 members consisting mainly of steel importers, stockists, and traders dealing in steel, building materials, old copper, scrap iron, copper, and aluminum.
Initially, the association was formed by a community of old goods traders from Fujian, China, who had close ties and kinship. As time passed, the association transformed from a community of old goods traders to an industry group and eventually became the MSMDA, a representative steel and metal group in Malaysia.
